Production Internship @ Golden Wolf

Ice cream day at the studio

(May 2022 – Aug 2022)

In May, I started a 3 month long production Internship at London-based Animation Studio Golden Wolf! I worked on projects for Adult Swim, Rick & Morty, Trainline, Weetabix and some still under NDA. I worked within the Production team, taking on the role of a Production Assistant and sometimes Studio Assistant. I had an amazing group of interns from the Animation team working alongside me along with the US studio’s Production Intern.

My Role:

  • Booking freelancers
  • Updating Miro boards
  • Creating purchase orders
  • Making booking agreements
  • Log colleague’s hours
  • Creating NDAs
  • Communication through Slack
  • Sourcing Artists
  • Note-taking in meetings
  • Assisting colleagues
  • Website design
  • Admin
The studio

What did I learn about the industry and my own goals?

I learnt how to use software that is key to working in the industry and feel that I now have great contacts within London. I also realised that I really enjoy admin tasks when I was given Studio Assistant jobs to do. This included messaging everyone on slack and asking for their hours and project breakdown, working on the website and event planning. It also confirmed that I don’t want to become an animator, I much preferred the production side. I now know the production process well, at points working as the only member of the production on a project.

I do feel like I need more time to think about what it is I want to do. I was offered a full time position at GW in talent acquisition but didn’t feel that I didn’t enjoy the artist sourcing as much as the production work.

When Shelley Page from Locksmith Animation visited I discussed production and my internship with her. She had a great point about good communication being one of the most important skills a producer or animator can have. I fully agree, working in the industry taught me how crucial communication is and increased my confidence in my own communication skills
