Recently I participated in a collaborative photoshoot with Photographer Ingrida Seskeviciute. The project is called ‘The Bride, The Angel & Demise’. The Bride (me), The Angel (Adèle Cardani & Demise (Rui Zheng).

‘This photoshoot was an exploration of telling a story through a process. We went in without a particular story in mind and decided it as we went.’ Adèle Cardani, The Angel

I found the use of titles as defining the characters to be a really interesting element of the project, whilst clearly being very character-driven the names also emphasise how plot-driven the story is. It does have me thinking about how particular I am about my stories. I tend to follow the classic adventure story, a Hero’s journey approach to storytelling and it would be interesting to explore more vague and metaphoric ways of storytelling.

It has me thinking that perhaps the narratives that are formed through my collaborations with other artists can inform the stories that I create in my own art in a different medium. This was also an exciting way of getting reference photos and costume/character inspiration.
As for relevant costume research, the V&A’s wedding dress archive collection is amazing and full of great dresses that will definitely influence my art is the future.
