I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the stop motion workshop! I did stop motion animation when I was younger with my sylvanian families and always enjoyed creating the story, but found the process very tiring and tedious. Dragonframe made the process way easier and much faster! I struggled at first to really show the heaviness of the ball. The feedback I got focussed on the character’s stance and how it realistically wouldn’t help the character lift the ball. I changed this as I tried again and the final result is a lot more successful. The weight of the ball is expressed in the struggle the character has to lift in and in the final comedic effect of the fall at the end. This process gave me an even greater understanding and appreciation of stop motion and the animators that pursue it. I also feel that I better understand key frames and “working in 1’s and 2’s”!
Below is the reference video I made to plan my animation.
